Job description

The designer will be responsible for completing projects involving the adaptation and marketing of European products and/or the design of architectural lighting fixtures. Based on instructions provided by management, they will coordinate the stages of the project, design the fixtures or parts for fixtures, coordinate the production of prototypes and tests, as well as all required documentation, all while meeting quality standards and the work schedule. The position holder will be responsible for:

  • Drafting the project specifications according to management’s requirements;

  • Conducting research and interpreting technical information regarding components, materials, and manufacturing processes;

  • Planning the installation sequences for lighting fixtures in accordance with current standards;

  • Designing the parts and assemblies of lighting fixtures and their components using Autodesk Inventor software;

  • Listing the components needed to produce the products (BOM);

  • Establishing the sequence of operations related to manufacturing processes;

  • Producing manufacturing drawings for mechanical parts;

  • Building prototypes;

  • Producing technical sheets and assembly drawings for production;

  • Providing technical support to the production department and other stakeholders involved;

  • Contributing to the company’s research and development activities;

  • Updating drawings and component lists;

  • Taking and interpreting measurements;

  • Determining dimensional tolerances;

  • Schematizing electrical connections and circuits;

  • Completing the documentation associated with the work;

  • Attending design team meetings;

  • Preparing component lists (BOM) when processing customer orders;

  • Performing any other related tasks that may help in project completion;

  • Participating in the daily processing of customer orders.


Required Qualifications

  • College diploma (DEC) in mechanical engineering, industrial design, or a bachelor’s degree in industrial design or environmental design.

  • Proactivity, interpersonal skills, autonomy, curiosity.

  • 2 to 3 years as a designer/industrial designer in a lighting product manufacturing company. Equivalent experience will also be considered.

  • Ability to solve complex problems.

  • Ability to work with/manipulate ERP system data.

  • Autonomy and the ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.

  • Interest in electrical or lighting products.

  • Comfortable working in a less structured environment.
