Director of Manufacturing Operations


The Director of Manufacturing Operations oversees the entire production process at Sistemalux, from component sourcing to the shipment of finished products to customers. This includes inventory management, production planning, assembly and rework, quality control, and logistics.

The Director is responsible for approximately 110 employees and plays a key role in improving efficiency, profitability, and innovation.

This role is also essential in aligning production operations with the company’s overall strategy and long-term growth objectives.


Main Responsibilities

  • Production Management and Efficiency:
    Ensure production efficiency, product quality, and adherence to customer deadlines. Design and optimize assembly lines, from mechanical assembly to electrical wiring, ensuring efficient work methods and the elimination of non-value-added (NVA) activities. Implement smooth material flow and optimized layouts to reduce waste in accordance with Lean Manufacturing principles.

  • Travel:
    Availability to travel to Italy once per year for kick-off meetings and business planning sessions, as well as to the United States and to suppliers (Canada, Italy, China, etc.) to maintain relationships and develop business opportunities.

  • Cross-functional Coordination:
    Collaborate with multiple departments, including R&D, sales, purchasing, logistics, and quality, to ensure smooth operations aligned with company objectives.

  • Leadership, Coaching, and Training:
    Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team. Implement and organize training programs, develop employee skills, and foster a culture of continuous improvement, health and safety, and accountability.

  • Continuous Improvement:
    Analyze production data, cycle times, and defect rates to optimize processes, reduce waste, and increase overall productivity, while maintaining high standards of safety and reliability.

  • ERP and Production Planning:
    Utilize ERP systems and apply production planning principles to ensure smooth operations and proper workforce capacity planning. Ability to develop and implement programs to ensure efficient use of materials (procurement and inventory), labor, and equipment in order to meet production targets.

  • Budget Management and Cost Control:
    Prepare and manage operational, plant, or production service budgets, including direct and indirect materials, labor, maintenance, tools, and equipment. Control costs while maintaining quality and increase profitability through cost-reduction initiatives, alternative sourcing, and production efficiency gains.

  • Quality and Compliance:
    Oversee quality control systems for incoming materials, production, as well as returns and claims, and implement tracking and reporting methods. Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies (WHMIS, UL, CoC).

  • Innovation and R&D Collaboration:
    Work closely with R&D on the development of existing products as well as the launch and production ramp-up of new products.

  • Audits and Inspections:
    Oversee annual inventories, financial audits, and UL inspections.

  • Logistics and International Operations:
    Oversee inbound and outbound logistics, ensuring compliance of documentation, HS codes, and country of origin (CUSMA CoO). Act as liaison with the Italian headquarters (iGuzzini HQ), Sistemalux operations and departments, and the U.S. sales subsidiary. Strong adaptability, cross-functional integration skills, and fluency in Italian, French, and English are desired.

  • Sustainability and ESG:
    Prepare annual sustainability reports in accordance with ESG requirements, Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) based on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, and the Canadian federal plastics registry.

qualifications REQUISEs

  • Master’s degree in engineering, operations management, or a related field – mechanical or industrial engineering preferred

  • Over 10 years of experience in manufacturing operations management, specifically in the electronics or lighting industry

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Experience with ERP systems and production planning tools

  • Solid knowledge of quality standards and policies (WHMIS, UL, CoC)

  • In-depth knowledge of MTS, ATO, MTO strategies, as well as forecasting methods and tools such as safety stock, reorder points, and lead times

  • Proficiency in international import/export requirements and documentation: ESG, HS codes, CUSMA, and CoO

  • Strong knowledge of electronic components and various mechanical manufacturing technologies (die casting, laser cutting, punching, bending, painting, etc.)

  • Proficiency in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies

  • Multilingual: Italian, French, and English required

SALARY:

$135,000 to $190,000 annually
